Review

While information about restaurants in the major cities is usually not
difficult to find, there is often little assistance when it comes to
eateries in rural areas, where the cuisine can run the gamut from greasy
spoons to auberge dining as fine as that encountered in rural France.
This guidebook to Alberta tea houses is arranged alphabetically by
place. A table of contents indicates which towns and cities are covered.
Each entry includes directions to the tea house, parking areas,
wheel-chair accessibility, hours of operation, menu, decor, and history,
where appropriate. Information on nearby attractions, such as craft
shops, is often provided. Prices are included when available. A short
bibliography is provided for those interested in further reading about
afternoon teas. Time for Tea in Alberta will inevitably suffer from the
limitations common to all such guides: the information will be outdated
quickly, especially the hours of operation for the tea establishments.
Nonetheless, this guide is a welcome addition to the province’s travel
literature, particularly for those interested in places that are quaint,
cosy, and off the beaten path.
