Review

Kit Pearson, author of the Governor General’s Award winner The Sky Is
Falling and its sequel Looking at the Moon, has another winner in The
Lights Go On Again, the final chapter in the story of two of Canada’s
“war guests,” Norah and Gavin.

It is 1945, the war is nearly over, and it is time for Norah and Gavin
to start thinking about going home to England. But before that happens,
word is received that their parents have been killed by a fluke bomb.
Norah is anxious and determined to return to England as soon as
possible, but Gavin, who barely remembers his parents, is hesitant to
leave the home and family that have been his for more than five years.
When Aunt Florence offers to adopt him, Gavin must choose between going
home with Norah and staying in Canada with the Ogilvies.

Children 10 and up (and adults too) will enjoy the excitement and
suspense as Gavin reaches his decision and brings the story to a
satisfying conclusion. Highly recommended.
