Review

Sixteen-year-old Daniel Bentley looks forward every year to spending his
summer vacation with his adventurous grandfather. But when he arrives at
his grandfather’s new home on the Gulf Islands off the British
Columbia coast, he discovers that his grandfather has vanished and his
home has been ransacked. Not only that, but the plants and animals on
the island are dying. With the help of Solano, his grandfather’s
stepdaughter, Daniel tries to find his grandfather and in the process
discovers that Suspicion Island is being used as a toxic-waste dump.

Jeni Mayer has done a masterful job of creating a vivid and horrifying
portrayal of the effects of toxic waste on the environment. An eerie
atmosphere and sense of impending doom in this exciting and spellbinding
mystery will keep the reader turning the pages. This is a skilfully
written novel with believable characters and realistic dialogue. Highly
recommended.
