Review

Marilyn Halvorson’s sequel to Cowboys Don’t Cry takes 15-year-old
Shane Morgan and his girlfriend, Casey Sutherland, from his ranch in
Deer Valley, Alberta, to Montana on a search for his father. Along the
way they have a variety of misadventures—no driver’s licences,
problems getting across the Canada–U.S. border, little money, a flat
tire, and being accused of drug possession. As the two teenagers attempt
to solve the mystery of Josh Morgan’s disappearance, they meet these
challenges and more.

Cowboys Don’t Quit is a short, fast-paced, highly readable adventure
novel that is sure to appeal to intermediate students. Written in a
breezy, conversational style, the story takes an in-depth look at how
Shane copes with an alcoholic father, the death of his mother in a car
accident, and a teenage friendship. Recommended.
