Review
Kevin Winslow, a 16-year-old, smashes up his dad’s car and is sent to
work as a farmhand on the McIntyre Ranch in Alberta. He begins writing
letters home to his friends telling them of his amusing adventures and
starts working on a newspaper, The McIntryre Liar.
The device of using letters to tell Kevin’s story in episodes is
reminiscent of Kevin Major’s Dear Bruce Springsteen, and it makes the
book an easy and entertaining read. This first novel, which won the
Alberta Writing for Youth award, is based on the author’s experiences
growing up and working on a ranch. Recommended.
