Review

This is a book about opposites: dinosaur sweet, dinosaur grumpy;
dinosaur spiky and dinosaur lumpy. Two to four words in large boldfaced
type appear at the bottom of each page; above are illustrations of
dinosaurs that exemplify the opposing adjectives. The illustrations are
striking and quite humorous, presented with little or no background to
distract the eye. Young children will enjoy the cartoon-like expressions
and poses of the dinosaurs.

Dinosaur Roar! would be an effective introduction to the teaching of
opposites in the kindergarten or Grade 1 classroom. The illustrations
will catch children’s attention, and the rhythm of the verse will hold
it. They will anticipate the repetition of the word “dinosaur” at
the beginning of each line and will be able to repeat it on cue.
Recommended.
