Review

A family of four moves into a new home. The young girl, Jenny, believes
a variety of creatures are hiding in unusual locations in the house.
Family members dispel her concerns by moving the packing boxes. After
finding a matchbox, Jenny hides it under her pillow and falls asleep
with her secret.

Although the setting has the possibility for mystery and intrigue,
there is very little suspense and few imaginative ideas in this book. In
addition, the weak ending leaves the young reader wanting to know more.

Paul Zwolak’s illustrations, however, suggest several other
possibilities for adventure in a new home. Involving children in
discussion could elicit some unique responses. Not a first-choice
purchase.
