Review

A little girl, unsure of what to get her grandma as a birthday gift,
asks her grandma to make a special birthday wish. Grandma’s wish is to
be a little girl again and play with her granddaughter. Together, they
explore the realms of real and imaginary play until, at the end of their
adventure, Grandma makes one last crazy wish.

Grandma’s Birthday Wish is told in a rollicking, page-turning rhyme
that draws the reader forward through the story. Brenda Jones’s
bright, irreverent illustrations have the same humorous tone as the
text. The illustrations are particularly strong when the story enters
the world of the fantastic, with its singing vegetables, cherubic
dragons, and crazy creatures.

Grandma’s Birthday Wish is recommended as an entertaining story,
suitable either for reading aloud or simply for enjoying the delightful
illustrations.
