Review

I like Jo Ellen Bogart’s latest book for its exuberance and
inventiveness. Preschoolers and older children will delight in
discovering which items are “two too many,” such as “Desdemona’s
dragon had two too many flames.” The recurring pattern and the rhyming
work well, as does the ending: “Sometimes the solution when you have
an extra pair / Is to find another friend or two and / ... Share ...
share ... share.”

Yvonne Cathcart’s mixed-media illustrations (oil pastel and gouache
with black crayon outlines) match the playfulness of the text. There’s
lots of color, expression, and intriguing detail, even in the
calligraphy.

Two Too Many has entertaining teaching points for math, science,
spelling, reading, and more. Highly recommended.
