Review

This bilingual book is the first in a series about Lucky, a female
purebred Chow Chow puppy who lives with 5-year-old Joshua and 9-year-old
Nicholas.

Lucky, discovering snow for the first time, is frightened by her own
shadow twice, but she is quickly comforted by both boys. End of story.

Alane MacFarlane’s full-page black-and-white illustrations are fairly
pleasing but sometimes questionable. For example, Nicholas seems more
like a teen than a preteen.

The author’s intention “to entertain as well as educate children in
the areas of love, respect, caring, and responsibility” is noble
enough, but unfortunately there is too little story to hold a child’s
interest. Not recommended.
