Review

A young German prisoner of war incarcerated with fellow prisoners north
of Edmonton is enthralled by the majesty of the forests, lakes, and
mountains of the area. While exploring the mountains, he sees a
three-legged ram and longs to have the animal’s horns as a trophy.
Years later he emigrates from Germany to Alberta and finds work in an
outdoors store. His knowledge of wilderness survival, his skills as an
outdoorsman, and his expertise with firearms take him once more on the
trail of the three-legged ram. He develops a kinship with his quarry as
he stalks him. But when presented with an opportunity to shoot the ram,
he finds he no longer wants to do so. The vivid descriptions of the
country and the survival techniques used by the outdoorsman will be of
special interest to those who love the outdoors. Recommended.
