Review

Jennifer Jones has a crush on a boy in her class. The story is told in
rhyme from the perspective of the boy who vehemently denies even liking
her. Why doesn’t she just move to the jungle or the moon? Anywhere but
near him. One day Jennifer does leave (her mother has been transferred
to Europe), and the boy suddenly finds himself missing her. To make
matters worse, she is having fun, munching chocolates in Brussels,
eating pizza in Rome ... When a card arrives saying she is coming home,
he runs out and buys red hearts.

Linda Hendry’s illustrations of pixielike faces are wonderful
companions to this humorous and delightful story of friendship. A great
addition to the primary classroom, especially for Valentine’s Day.
Recommended.
