Review

Mort Paterson is a former professor of philosophy at Laurentian
University who became a pastor of the United Church and now works
full-time in family violence ministry. In this book, which is replete
with personal anecdotes, he reminds us that unless men learn to treat
women with humility, compassion, and tenderness, their own children are
doomed to repeat, in their adult lives, the patterns they witnessed in
childhood.

Recognizing that the men who most need to read this book will tend to
shun it, Paterson challenges others to draw abusive behavior to the
attention of churches. He also demands that churches be proactive in
their dealings. Included in the appendixes are suggestions for study
groups, lists of pertinent readings, and a directory of women’s
shelters.
