Review

The string games included in this book were taken from the author’s
highly acclaimed Cat’s Cradle, Owl’s Eyes, and Many Stars and More
String Games. Designed for children 8 to 10, the book encourages
children to have fun alone or with a friend while making such
fascinating figures as the basic cradle, the soldier’s bed, candles,
manger, saw, diamonds, cat’s eye, and fish in a dish.

New string-game players will enjoy the author’s introduction, which
touches briefly on the games’ history and worldwide popularity.
Attached to the book’s spine are two sets of string, in bright red and
blue nylon yarn (a recommended yarn is available in dressmakers’
supply stores, if more is needed). The book lends itself well to solo or
group dynamics as children string along at home or at school.
Recommended.
