Review

This accessible book outlines 13 science activities designed to teach
primary children about six simple machines: lever, pulley, inclined
plane, screw, wedge, and axle. A simple question is used to pique
children’s curiosity and start them thinking about the topic. This is
followed by a list of basic materials needed for the activity and by a
“What to Do” section that gives clear, precise directions for
completing the activity. The activity concludes with “What’s
Happening,” a simple explanation of the phenomenon demonstrated.
Sidebars and colorful photographs make the presentation inviting for
children.

The interesting and fun activities featured in Simple Machines make it
a valuable resource for teachers and parents alike. Recommended.
