Review

Superstars on Ice profiles international figure skaters who have
distinguished themselves by winning medals at the Olympic Games or by
winning professional skating competitions. Single and team skaters are
included.

Facts and anecdotes accompany color photographs of the stars
demonstrating their form on the ice. While the focus is on contemporary
athletes, great skaters from the 1940s to the 1980s are given due
mention. The skaters are categorized under such eye-catching headings as
“The Entertainer” and “Sizzling Sophistication.”

Fans of figure skating will enjoy this tribute to the stars of the
sport. The short biographies are packed with information, and the
author’s writing style is crisp and appealingly idiosyncratic. A quote
from each skater, his or her coach, or a professional peer lends a
personal note. Recommended.
