Review

This companion volume to Simple Linework is intended for those with an
interest in applying watercolor techniques to architectural subjects.
The book offers a step-by-step guide to dry-technique watercolor
painting, in which successive layers of watercolor are painted over a
previously formed dry layer.

The book lists required tools, and illustrates the effects obtained. It
also describes how to compose and transfer a sketch, and how to prepare
the palette. To demonstrate the application of the dry technique, Narale
shows a layer-by-layer development of the Taj Mahal, complete with
notes. Other case studies of architectural projects and cityscapes
reinforce the principles behind the dry technique. The book concludes
with advice on rendering human figures, silhouettes, and landscapes.

More than a how-to manual, For the Love of Watercolor is replete with
sayings and personal anecdotes, often written in verse, revealing the
author’s passion for his craft. Recommended.
