Review

Superbly designed to resemble a photograph album, with glossy and
elegantly framed pages, this book tells the tragic story of Anastasia
(the tsar’s youngest daughter) and her family through a combination of
family letters, simply written narrative, and carefully selected photos.
In addition to the photos covering the period from Anastasia’s birth
in 1901 to the imperial family’s imprisonment and murder at Tobolsk in
1917-18, there are recent photographs of the Romanovs’ homes and
belongings. The author addresses both the privileged position of this
family and the plight of the Russian people prior to 1918, along with
the mystery surrounding Anastasia’s survival. Even young readers not
usually interested in history will find themselves entranced by

this beautifully produced book. Highly recommended.
