Review

Rifle shots ring out as Tobi and her younger brother, Dustin, walk
through the forest in search of bald eagles. Later, they discover tire
tracks on the main road. Back at the family cabin, they find a strange
truck in the drive. Will, the owner, says he is a friend of their
grandfather’s, but Tobi is suspicious. The unfolding mystery concerns
starving eaglets, a recluse named Max, and revelations about Will’s
hidden agenda.

This satisfying mystery conveys to the junior reader interesting facts
about bald eagles. Although the mystery is ultimately resolved by
adults, the children are given full credit for their observations and
assistance. Recommended.
