Review

Summer on her family’s Saskatchewan farm is no holiday for Marjorie.
Because the price of wheat is so low, her mother must sew to make extra
money, and Marjorie is expected to cook and clean, weed the garden, and
mind her little sister. To add to her misery, her best friend has moved
to Vancouver. Then she meets Craig, the son of new neighbors, and the
two of them become caught up in a mystery involving stolen pesticides.
Before the mystery is finally solved, all the evidence seems to point to
Marjorie’s father.

Despite its heavy emphasis on chores and responsibility, this story is
written with a light touch. The mystery is well developed and builds to
an exciting, satisfying conclusion. Highly recommended.
