Review
Sometimes Rose’s 85-year-old Granny gets terribly confused—stashing
toilet paper in the freezer, serving porridge for supper, failing to
recognize people. Lately, Granny has been combing the house and digging
up the yard in search of a mysterious treasure box she thinks will save
the family business from going bankrupt. Rose isn’t sure the treasure
exists, but she helps her beloved Granny anyway. Now, the family is in a
tizzy because Granny keeps running away in search of her treasure box.
Does it really exist? More important, can Rose keep Granny from being
sent to a nursing home?
This tale of pathos and humor is a genuine page-turner. Plot and
conclusion are credible, events unfold smoothly and at a good pace, and
the characters are colorful, distinct, and for the most part realistic.
Young readers will enjoy the good-natured bantering and roughhousing
that take place between Rose and her siblings. Rose’s compassion and
respect for Granny make her an inspiring role model. Recommended.
