Review

Melody Mooner is a 6-year-old pink pig who wants to be good at something
special. In January, she tries skating but doesn’t like falling on the
cold ice. In February, she attempts skiing but goes downhill too fast.
In March, she tries ballet but it makes her dizzy. As the months go by,
Melody undertakes a variety of other activities (aided by Mortimer the
mouse), including gymnastics, judo, painting, and swimming. Finally, in
October, she attends a concert with her grandmother, receives a tuba for
her birthday, and practises until each note is perfect.

John Bianchi’s clever and humorous illustrations nicely complement
this volume in the continuing adventures of Mortimer and Melody. This
Bungalo Books series for primary students offers teachers and librarians
a Reading Buddies program complete with a classroom set of laminated
membership cards. Recommended.
