Review

At first glance, this sturdy spiral-bound board book appears to be a
standard ABC for very young children. Two letters of the alphabet are
printed in upper and lower case on each page, accompanied by brightly
colored pictures illustrating a word beginning with those letters. Each
of the vibrant, cheerful, and often humorous diagrams is framed in its
own decorative border.

Here the resemblance to a traditional ABC ends. The border actually
serves as a frame for the reader’s own artwork. Each illustration is,
in fact, a flap that can be pulled up to reveal a space designed to hold
a photograph or drawing beginning with the letter shown. The book can be
prepared for the child as a gift, similar to a family album, or the
child can be the author/illustrator and complete the book alone or with
help.

Hands-on and interactive, Your Own ABC is a primer aimed at children
who are starting to experiment with the sounds that letters represent.
Recommended.
