Review

The title is very clever for this book of poetry about cats—a long,
long list of cats. Frequently the cats are described by their physical
features. Sometimes reference is made to their emotional or social
attributes and even their nationality. But their antics are the primary
focus of the poems.

Throughout most of the book there is a strong rhythm that will appeal
to young children. But breakdowns in this rhythm are somewhat
disruptive. Some poetic license occurs with the vocabulary; not all
words will be familiar to young readers.

Kim LaFave’s colorful illustrations are whimsical and action-packed,
and successfully depict a great variety of cats. Recommended.
