Review

Counted among North America’s leading authorities on the Internet, Jim
Carroll and Rick Broadhead have added another title to their growing
list of Internet books. While their Canadian Internet Handbook (now in
its third edition) continues to enjoy bestselling status, The Canadian
Internet Advantage answers many of the questions asked by people
planning an Internet presence or seeking a deeper understanding of what
the Net has to offer.

The book stresses the importance of developing of an Internet strategy
before going on-line, and provides more than 80 strategies for review as
well as a step-by-step guide. Business, government, education,
not-for-profit, and health-care sectors are all examined in terms of
what their Net presence might hope to accomplish. For example, where a
business strategy would emphasize marketing and customer relations, a
government agency’s strategy would likely focus on information
distribution and communication. The approaches used in hundreds of Web
sites (including Canadian ones) are discussed, and summaries of the
information discussed appear throughout the book.

Written in a clear and accessible style, this excellent resource would
have been even better if a directory of companies across Canada offering
Web design services had been included.
