Review

If I Were the Moon is a delightful picture book about a little girl who
wishes she were the moon so that she could shine her light to “warm up
the night.” Sheree Fitch’s simple poem follows the child as she
imagines that she is a rainbow, the ocean, and other natural phenomena.

The illustrations by Leslie Elizabeth Watts are fun and whimsical.
Usually, there is an image of what the child is imagining, followed by
an image of what she is doing in real life. For example, when she
imagines she’s a rainbow, the illustration depicts a child sliding
down a rainbow; the accompanying image is of a girl sliding down a slide
with a very young child. This wonderful representation of childhood
imagination is a calming and gentle book, great for bedtime. Highly
recommended for home, school, and public libraries.
