Review
There is no doubt that the manner in which information is communicated
can influence a student’s grade for better or worse. This book shows
students how to add style to substance, with more than 20 suggestions
for turning “[a] story, project or report into something amazing.”
Familiar formats—posters, accordions, and silhouette books—are
accompanied by less well-known display types such as the slide show and
the pyramid. Step-by-step instructions and diagrams, as well as a list
of necessary materials and work tips, are included to facilitate
assembly.
Story Presentations might be a helpful resource in an enrichment
program emphasizing open-ended projects. Although the directions are
quite clear, younger students may require a teacher’s assistance with
a few of the more complex projects. Unfortunately, there is no
indication at the outset that the book applies only to the final stage
of the research or writing process. Recommended with reservations.
