Review

This Tyrannosaurus Rex kit contains an information booklet, a small (14"
x 6.5") poster depicting Tyrannosaurus in its environment, and a 6" x 4"
skeleton model that is stored in a dinosaur egg. The booklet provides
general information on dinosaurs: their environment, place in time,
fossilization, as well as detailed and current information on
Tyrannosaurus Rex. Clear assembly instructions are provided for the
model, which, when completed, will provide the child with a
three-dimensional replica of what he or she has just been reading about.
The hands-on nature of the model reinforces the learning experience,
particularly because the anatomy of Tyrannosaurus Rex is discussed at
some length in the booklet and the child will be assembling skeletal
parts that will now have some degree of familiarity.

The artist’s awareness of the latest scientific research is reflected
in the depiction of the dinosaurs: they are richly
colored—orange-and-gold striped and black-and-green mottled—rather
than presented in traditional drab gray and dun brown.

While not recommended for children under 4 because of the small parts,
this kit will provide an educational and enjoyable experience for the
primary-grade child. Recommended.
