Review

Peggy is a girl from long ago who fished with her father in Bonavista,
Newfoundland. She wants to introduce today’s children to a time when
the catching of salt fish and lobsters was a flourishing industry. In
this coloring book, she describes how the lobster and cod were trapped
and processed by hand. Clarifying the text are labeled drawings of a
skiff and a punt, and the tools and traps used by the fishermen. Among
the book’s activities are word puzzles that feature vocabulary
introduced in the text.

Notwithstanding the rather stiff drawings of the central characters,
this activity book fills a need for educational material of regional
interest. Recommended.
