Review

Two hundred kilometres from Winnipeg and home, 17-year-old Dolina May
Hunter exits her boyfriend Mitch’s car and staggers through the dark
fields during a driving rainstorm. Handsome Spencer Cameron from a
nearby farm rescues her and introduces her into his household, much to
the dismay of his parents. The streetwise and wisecracking Dolina, with
her mod clothes, lipstick, mascara, and fake nose ring, is foreign to
the wholesome Camerons. Over the course of her weekend at the farm,
Dolina comes to appreciate not only some unexpected kindness and
hospitality but also some hands-on farming experiences.

Although Dolina is a likable, well-drawn, and credible character, the
secondary characters come across as types rather than real people. As
the book comes to a close, Moore seems to be setting the stage for a
sequel to Dolina’s story. Recommended.
