Ultimate Hockey Trivia

Dave Jenkinson is a professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba and the author of the “Portraits” section of Emergency Librarian.

With the publications of this pair of titles, Don Weekes, a television
producer and writer with Montreal’s CFCF 12, assisted by Vancouver
sports columnist and TV commentator Kerry Banks, has produced nine
hockey trivia books. Though the two books share a similar format,
Ultimate Hockey Trivia tends to focus on the 1995–96 season, while
Classic Hockey Trivia covers a much wider time span.

As in previous titles, each book is again divided into 10 “games.”
The most frequently appearing trivia challenges involve multiple-choice
questions. Others include crossword puzzles, true/false questions,
fill-in-the-blanks, word-matching puzzles, who-am-I’s, and word-find
puzzles. A new trivia addition is the “Reader Rebound” section, in
which readers ask the questions (those wanting to contribute questions
to future editions will find a response sheet at the end of the book).

Although public libraries may be wary of the consumable nature of these
books, NHL aficionados of all ages who want to test their knowledge of
the game will delight in their truly challenging contents. Highly
recommended.
