Review

Morgan does not think his prospects are good for initiating friendships
in his new school and neighborhood. As he says, “I’ve got this flat
tire feeling that there’s no room for me.” In a desperate effort to
impress his would-be friends, he tells a lie—namely, that he can do
magic tricks. By the end of the story, when his dilemma has been
resolved, he has learned the trick of making friends.

This attractive and accessible book uses age-appropriate vocabulary in
fun and interesting ways. An appealing central character makes the
familiar plot pleasurable to follow. Bill Slavin’s clever and
expressive drawings add much charm. Highly recommended.
