Review

The sixth volume in the Starting with Space series provides
elementary-school students with factual information about both natural
and human history related to comets, asteroids, and meteorites. The book
also contains stories and legends, experiments and observation
activities, information about recent sightings, and references to
relevant Web sites.

There are a few photographs and many cartoonlike illustrations,
including a personified comet who delivers factual messages. The six
experiment or “try it” sections have easy-to-follow instructions and
illustrations. All the experiments involve the use of common household
items, so most children will be able to do them. Highly recommended for
school and public libraries, and for use in elementary-school science
classes.
