Review

The Screech Owls hockey team has come to Toronto to play in the Little
Stanley Cup, an important tournament involving teams from Canada and the
United States. Travis, the team captain, describes the games and the
various adventures the boys have in Toronto, including their preventing
the Stanley Cup from being stolen from the Hockey Hall of Fame. The
attempted theft of the Stanley Cup is mirrored by several shoplifting
incidents involving one of the Screech Owls.

A noteworthy strength of MacGregor is his ability to construct
believable scenarios concerning teenagers. As we follow the boys on
their various Toronto excursions, their actions and conversations
consistently ring true. A former hockey player, the author describes the
tournament with due regard for the play-by-play action. But you don’t
have to be a hockey fan to enjoy this novel; most of the action takes
place off the ice. Mystery buffs will enjoy the ingenious methods the
boys use to prevent the robbery. Recommended.
