Review

This collection of autobiographical essays recounts the author’s
experiences as a Métis writer, poet, mother, partner, sister, and
daughter. Drawing upon her family’s history—a history defined by
abuse, racism, oppression, and disempowerment—Arnott demonstrates the
inseparability of past and present. She brings to events that are
charged with emotion a keen sensitivity and discerning analysis. By
turns angry and rejoicing, this always powerful book will be of
particular relevance to readers interested in Native and women’s
studies. It would be a welcome addition to general libraries, as well.
