Review

For a little boy at the cottage, Sebastian has had a busy schedule. On
the first day, he had all the turns he could stand on a trampoline. On
the second day, he and his father made the biggest sand castle on the
beach. On the third day, his parents took him to a nearby game farm,
where he tamed a ferocious tiger. On the fourth day, Sebastian learned
how to karate-kick the clouds. On the last day, he went sailing on Lake
Okanagan, where he met the Ogopogo Monster and was invited to climb on
its back for a ride.

But all was not play for little Sebastian. Besides having fun, he also
had to take care of his baby sister, Jennifer. She cried a lot and her
stuff seemed to crowd up the car and the cottage. Nevertheless,
Sebastian learned that being a big brother can have its advantages too.

This is a charming little book by award-winning poet and children’s
author Gwen Molnar. Her lean, elegant prose wonderfully captures the
exuberance of a lively young boy and his imaginative perspective of the
world. Humor and lyrical images are nicely present throughout. Kendra
McCleskey’s illustrations also have an expert’s light touch. Highly
recommended.
