Review

This useful and easy-to-read guide to the web is aimed at children 6 to
13 and their parents. After a brief introduction in which he explains
such basic terms as “gophers,” “URLs,” and “search engines,”
the author lists themes and annotated addresses. (CyberSurfer: The OWL
Internet Guide for Kids [1966], it should be noted, contains far more
information and addresses.) Kids will like his picks for favorite sties.
They include the Berkeley Hall of Dinosaurs, the Froggy Page, Bill
Nye’s Science page, and lots of game sites. One of the best features
of this book is its generous selection of Canadian sites.

Less than esthetically pleasing (the book looks like it is
self-published), Confused? is nevertheless valuable for its strong
Canadian content. It is also a good resource for librarians working on
their own library homepages. Recommended with reservations.
