Review

If baking desserts is one of your favorite parent/child activities, then
put the family dentist on yellow alert and reach for this book. Anyone
who can follow a few simple directions will in no time be baking simple
sugar-cookie critters, lemon-flavored farmyard cookies, rainforest
monkey cocoa cookies, chewy coconut bird nests, Arctic animal ice-cream
sandwiches, and African animal chocolate carousel cake. The book comes
complete with a small cookie sheet and 14 animal-shaped cookie cutters.
Inserted between the recipes are interesting details about animals you
might be creating (e.g., although a polar bear’s fur is white, its
skin underneath is black).

The author is quick to point out that baking is something children
should do only while under the supervision of their parents.
Fortunately, these recipes are so simple that even grownups raised on
store-bought goodies will feel empowered to roll up their sleeves.
Highly recommended.
