Review
Matthew Brown, 12, and his brother Jacob, 9, are the founders of
Children for Charity. In the past five years, they have raised over
$7000 for Breast Cancer Research. Proceeds from the sale of this book
will help them to achieve their goal of raising $20,000 for their
charity.
Their book presents over 50 ideas for making a difference in the world.
The ideas are activity-based and often ask children to become involved
with others to achieve their goals. For example, the boys suggest asking
your Nana to teach you how to crochet or sew and sell things together at
a fair. Another suggestion is to sponsor a clown show with friends. A
note from Maxine, the boys’ mother, provides parents with tips on
motivating and supporting children as they attempt to raise money for a
charity of their own choice.
While the ideas in this small-format book are valuable, the
presentation could have been improved with a better page layout and
typeface. That said, Let’s Make a Difference will inspire clubs,
schools, and individuals to participate in fund-raising activities.
Recommended.
