Review

These easy-to-use guides are designed to help you keep track of your
garden month by month. Each month has a daily space for recording
relevant information about the weather, the sprouting or blooming of
plants, birds or insects seen, and so forth.

The books are designed not only to record personal growing results, but
also to prompt ideas and help planning. For each month, a detailed
explanation provides general data about the growing conditions expected
in your area, along with suggestions about what should be done in a
particular month. Topics covered include how and when to prune, starting
plants from seed, creating wildlife habitat, lawn maintenance, plant
propagation, houseplant care, container gardening, gardening planning,
and design ideas. Each book contains first- and last-frost date maps,
charts on climate norms and extremes, a comprehensive bibliography, and
a list of horticultural societies.

The advice offered in both books is clear, concise, and accurate. Each
page is adorned with colourful, attractive pictures of plants of the
month. These books are worthwhile and attractive resources for gardeners
who like to keep a record of their garden activities.
