Review

Richard Cumyn is fiction editor for The Antigonish Review and the author
of four previously published collections of fiction.

Set in the late 19th century, The View from Tamischeira tells the
absorbing story of three Western travellers who venture into the
Caucasus Mountains by horse and buggy, each for a different reason.
British MP Henry Norman wishes to find material for his next book.
Professor Reginald Fessenden is looking for physical evidence of the
Garden of Eden, Atlantis, and the Great Flood. Miss Waddell’s mission
is to find the right spot in order to fulfill a promise to her late
lover, the poet Archibald Lampman. Along for the ride is Norman’s
guide, a hired local who provides plenty of excitement for Waddell and
totally alters her journey.

Fascinating interjections about the ancient times are among this little
novel’s many charms. The View from Tamischeira would make a great
travel companion.
