Review

Through his extensive travels as an international journalist, Peter Ward
developed into an exceptional wine taster. As a weekly columnist with
the Ottawa Citizen, he continued to expand his knowledge and to
influence a growing wine-drinking audience.

Starting with Cabernet Sauvignon and ending with sherry, Ward delights
the reader with stories about the many different countries he has
visited and the wines he has tasted. Along the way, we learn many
valuable lessons about wine, such as how to avoid having your winemaking
efforts in the basement degenerate into a fruit fly farm. Regrettably,
the photographs peppered throughout the book are not in colour. Other
than that minor complaint, Don’t Spit the Good Stuff is pure delight.
Like a lovely wine, it lingers in your mouth—and your mind—long
after it is finished.
