Review

This fact-filled, tightly written, and engaging book offers an excellent
overview of the film and television business for parents seeking to
launch their children into acting careers. Topics covered include
finding and assessing agents; preparing youngsters’ résumés; dealing
with photographers and talent and modelling agencies; completing union
and non-union documents, call sheets, and contracts; and even working
with animals. There are guidelines for parental behaviour on the set, a
glossary of terms (from “Abby Singer” to “zoom”), checklists of
questions to ask an agent, a table of approximate pay scales, worksheets
(such as an audition-tracking form), and 16 industry-related samples
(including a model letter to an agent, a storyboard, and a payroll
voucher).

This book earns top marks for its down-to-earth practicality,
accessibility, and comprehensiveness.
