Review

Sheila Kindellan Sheehan’s work has been published in The Globe and
Mail and was read on CBC Radio’s First Person Singular.

Sheila’s Take is a collection of short narrations about the
author’s extraordinary life. Born in the early 1950s into a Catholic
family in Quebec, she and her seven siblings lived in Montreal,
Winnipeg, and Toronto. Life in school with the nuns was tough, and she
describes the tricks she and her older sister played on their parents
and teachers. With a strict and perfectionist mother, life was never
easy. In a separate chapter, Sheehan delves into her mother’s
upbringing and finds the reason for these characteristics. Most tragic
of all is her account of her husband’s losing battle with cancer; a
new mountain bike played a critical role in her healing.

Sheehan recounts her difficult life story with courage and humour. Her
indomitable spirit will inspire readers of all ages.
