Review
When does intriguing trivia with which one might impress friends become
boring minutiae that interest nobody? Wherever one draws the line, this
companion volume to the first three seasons of the justly popular
television comedy has plenty of both. Here, fans can read about the
origin of the show and about the Saskatchewan town used for exterior
filming. There are sketchy cast biographies, costume notes, lyrics to
the theme song, and more photos than pages. Viewers will find
interesting the “Top 20 Burning Questions from Corner Gas Fans”
(“Is there a reason why Karen’s police shirts are way too big for
her?”), but who cares which scenes are the favourites of various CTV
executives? The best part of this attractive volume, and the reason to
keep it handy with your DVDs, is the half that gives two pages of notes
for each show, but even here, trivia and minutiae are blurred. Some of
us are great fans, but still don’t really care how many cups of coffee
appear in each of the 50 episodes.
