Review
An Internet gardening guru, a professional horticulturist, a veteran
garden writer, a landscape designer, and a syndicated garden columnist
are all among the very experienced contributors to this trio of
excellent reference books for western and prairie gardeners.
Each book begins with an introduction that outlines the basics of
selecting and planting. Descriptions of 162 plants follow. The
descriptions are organized in eight sections, and just about every type
of plant you would consider for a garden is covered: annuals,
perennials, trees and shrubs, roses, vines, bulbs, herbs, and foliage
plants such as grasses and ferns. Each entry is accompanied by a
brilliant full-colour photograph, as well as information on soil and
light requirements, plant size, hardiness zones, and seasonal variations
in foliage. Plants are listed by both botanical and popular names, and
all three books contain well-prepared indexes and glossaries.
These beautiful-looking, easy-to-use guidebooks are must-buys for any
Westerner wanting to create a garden.
