Review

The five stories that make up this collection depict important episodes
in the lives of five ordinary people.

We hear the vitriolic inner musings of an overweight, outwardly timid
woman as she dreams about a possible romance with a co-worker. A hapless
single mom simply wants to feed her kids a breakfast bagel while waiting
for a doctor to see her sick baby. An office worker succumbs to the
pressure to go hunting with his colleagues, with gut-wrenching
consequences. A young Catholic waitress who has secret doubts about
religion may lose more than her faith to the new fry cook she meets at
work. A middle-aged alcoholic is forced to take responsibility for his
mentally challenged brother.

These stories are grim, visceral, and moving, as the collection’s
title implies. Despite the gloom, they offer emotional payoffs.
Ollmann’s characters are fully developed, and their stories are
crafted with care and affection.

This Will All End in Fears is an unflinching look at the human
condition.
