Review
This is one of Northrop Frye’s best-known books, and has been
reprinted more than 25 times since its first appearance in 1957. This
present edition contains a long introductory essay by the editor, and
offers considerably expanded notes supplementing Frye’s own.
Otherwise, little is new. The text is adapted to conform to the “house
rules” and editorial principles followed in the Collected Works
series. For most purposes, the text of the original remains adequate;
however, this version will henceforward be regarded as definitive.
