Review

British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley is fast becoming one of Canada’s
pre-eminent tourist areas and choice of residence.

Couper’s well-organized, reader-friendly guide is a jam-packed
overview of the region’s history, geography, climate, agriculture, and
many attractions, ranging from outdoor recreation activities such as
skiing, boating, and golfing, to festivals and fairs, to wildlife
sightings, to wineries and their associated wining and dining
opportunities. Black-and-white photographs of sites such as the Naramata
Inn, the Penticton Museum, and the S.S. Sicamous complement colour
images of the area’s parks, lakes, flowers, golf courses, beaches, and
spectacular sunsets. A 16-page calendar of events lists virtually every
festival, fair, and event, from Peachland’s Polar Bear Dip to the
O’Keefe Ranch Cowboy Festival to the Penticton Ironman Triathalon.

This comprehensive and entertaining handbook is a valuable resource for
both tourists and prospective residents of a place the author calls
“the best place on the planet Earth in which to live.”
