Review

Charlie White, 80, is a British Columbia legend. No one knows more about
salmon fishing on salt water than Charlie. Before a stroke slowed him
down in 1999, his videos of salmon in the open ocean chasing lures and
being caught were must-see presentations for serious West Coast fishers.
As this book demonstrates, Charlie is still active and still learning;
thus his 101 Fishing Secrets, published in 1985, has now become 103
Fishing Secrets.

This is a practical book, and so well organized that a beginner could
learn all the basics of salmon fishing just by studying and applying the
tips in it. The reader is shown the basic mindset that leads to
successful fishing (Chapter 1, “General Considerations”) and then,
chapter by chapter, taught how to prepare to fish, where to fish, how to
use all the basic gear, how to play and land a fish, and how to care for
the fish so that it becomes a tasty meal.

Though the book is written for West Coast fishers, the information
could be applied to fishing for any large ocean or lake species that
sport fishers pursue from their boats.
